Lots of Perth homes still have a rooftop solar hot water system that's been up there for years. When the tank or panels start to fail, replacing them on the roof can be a big job. A heat pump is a popular alternative because it sits on the ground, needs no roof work, and still heats water efficiently, especially if you've got solar panels for power.
We service and repair existing solar hot water systems, and when it's time to replace, we can talk you through switching to a heat pump or another system that suits the house.
Signs it's time to replace
- Leaks from the roof tank or collectors
- The booster is running all the time and your bills have gone up
- Rust or discoloured hot water
- Repairs keep coming back
What the job involves
We isolate and disconnect the old system, remove what needs to come off, set up the heat pump on a proper base with drainage and clearances, connect the water with new valves, and arrange a licensed electrician if the power supply needs work. Then we commission and test it and set the timer.
Every roof is different, so we look at what's up there before we quote. Getting old equipment off a roof safely can add time, and we'll tell you upfront if that's the case.
Repair or replace?
If your solar system is in reasonable shape and the fault is fixable, a repair might be the better call, and we'll say so. We'd rather give you the honest answer than sell you a new system you don't need yet.
Questions
Can you just repair my solar hot water?
Often, yes. We service and repair existing solar hot water systems, and we'll tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.
Does a heat pump need roof space?
No. A heat pump sits on the ground outside, so there's no roof work once the old system is removed.
